If you are an artisan, maker or local producer, you have likely already heard about PEPPOL in the context of B2B invoicing in Belgium.
The term appears more and more frequently, simply because electronic invoicing is gradually becoming the standard for business-to-business transactions.
The objective of this evolution is clear: to structure, secure and standardise B2B exchanges, while improving traceability and accounting accuracy.
At Wimzzi, we aim to provide you with a clear, practical and accessible explanation, so you can continue your activity with a solid understanding of the framework in place.
PEPPOL is a secure European network that enables companies to exchange standardised electronic invoices within a B2B context.
The core principle is simple:
👉 each company sends its B2B invoices through its own invoicing tool connected to the PEPPOL network.
In other words, the invoice is always issued by the company itself. Neither the client nor a third-party platform can send it on your behalf. This system ensures clear responsibilities, full traceability and consistent compliance for all parties involved.
It is important to clearly understand Wimzzi’s role.
Wimzzi cannot issue PEPPOL invoices on behalf of artisans. This rule is inherent to the PEPPOL model and does not depend on platform-specific choices.
Each artisan therefore remains responsible for issuing their B2B invoices, either through their own accounting software or a PEPPOL-compatible invoicing tool.
This clear division of roles guarantees proper compliance and transparency for everyone.
Even with the introduction of PEPPOL, the core of your collaboration with Wimzzi remains unchanged.
The platform continues to generate Wimzzi retribution documents / purchase invoices, containing all the necessary information for your accounting: net amount, VAT if applicable, total amount and a unique Wimzzi reference.
These documents remain your official reference and form the basis for your invoicing process.
In practice, the procedure mainly depends on the accounting tool you use.
Many modern accounting solutions allow you to import a PDF invoice and send it automatically via PEPPOL. In that case, you simply download the Wimzzi retribution document, import it into your software and link the sending address to hello@wimzzi.com
âś… The PEPPOL transmission is then handled directly by your tool.
✍️ Other tools require you to recreate the invoice manually. The document generated by Wimzzi already contains all the necessary data. You simply need to copy the amounts exactly (net amount, VAT, total), mention the reference wimzzi-retribution-XXXX, and send the invoice via PEPPOL to hello@wimzzi.com
Key point: exact matching of amounts
In all cases, the amounts must match exactly those indicated on the Wimzzi document. They should not be recalculated or rounded differently. This ensures smooth and accurate accounting consistency on both sides.
To centralise information and simplify your administrative steps, a dedicated PEPPOL FAQ is available directly in your Wimzzi artisan account.
It covers the most common questions, different scenarios depending on the tools used, and recommended best practices. It is a practical reference you can consult at any time.
If you have specific questions
As each situation may differ slightly, your accountant remains the best point of contact to validate your PEPPOL configuration.
The Wimzzi team is, of course, available to guide you if needed.
PEPPOL now governs B2B invoicing in Belgium. Each artisan issues invoices through their own tool, while Wimzzi continues to provide the necessary retribution documents. Depending on your software, the process is clear and straightforward, and a dedicated FAQ is available in your Wimzzi account.
At Wimzzi, we ensure that the administrative framework remains clear, structured and easy to understand, so you can focus on what truly matters: your craftsmanship and creations.
