yuKaï is a fusion of “yuka”, the soft cassava pod in Congo — evoking roots, essence, and nature — and “Kate”, my nickname. The “ï” might unconsciously echo the sound of “ikigai”, that Japanese word meaning “reason for being,” the balance between passion, mission, vocation, and profession. I create ceramics (and more…) that are alive, imperfect, yet sincere — deeply inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy, which celebrates the beauty of the incomplete, free forms, and raw textures. Each piece I shape is born from instinctive gestures — often irregular, always genuine. My ceramics don’t aim for perfection: they embrace accidents, surprises, and the poetry of simplicity.
